Jade School foresees a multi-disciplined roll-out offering courses in many fields of study, making Jade School both the most comprehensive and innovative online teaching platform anywhere in the world.

The ESL program will be extended to secondary schools, and first language classes then offered as well.

Drama, public speaking and debating will be taught by experts in the field.

English conversational classes for adults will be presented in a meaningful and structured way.

English for Business will be overseen by qualified English born speakers with top business university qualifications and a successful track record in a number of different business enterprises.

In addition, various other language courses such as Latin and French are envisaged. A chess international plans to present an innovative chess and English combined course.

Ultimately the goal is for Jade School to operate as a fully-fledged global online home school, offering all the subjects that would make up a curriculum.

Chris Angelo-Herselman

Co-Founder | Principal

BCom, BCom(Hons)Acc, CA, CPA, TEP, CBP.
Seasoned board member and former senior private banker.

Chris is a South African Chartered Accountant and Hong Kong Certified Public Accountant, with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Port Elizabeth, and a Bachelor of Commerce Honors degree from the University of Natal. He is also TEFL qualified and specializes in teaching Business English. 

Before co-founding Jade Schools, Chris had a successful 20-year career in banking and finance, and as an entrepreneur. As VP at HSBC Private Bank in Hong Kong and Bermuda, he was an advisor to ultra-high net worth individuals and families. He also founded and co-founded various businesses in the fintech and blockchain industries, and in sports nutrition.

Chris is internationally well travelled having lived and worked in various countries including South Africa, the United States, Channel Islands, Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Bermuda.

Ewan Kromhout

Co-Founder | Chief Product Officer

BA, BA (Hon), Higher Diploma of Education, MA cum laude.

Ewan obtained a MA Latin degree (cum laude) at the University of Port Elizabeth. He subsequently taught English and Latin at Senior School level for 20 years with a particular interest in advanced English grammar. 

Ewan then founded a sports nutrition company, Supplements SA, in 2003 and subsequently oversaw its growth to become one of the major companies of its type in South Africa. He also expanded the company internationally into Europe, East Asia and Africa.

Ewan has represented South Africa at chess over a number of years, and was the South African Junior chess coach in the 1990s.

Alex Kromhout

Co-Founder | Chief Operating Officer

BA English Literature and Media Production.
Many years spent working in various Business Management roles.

Alex graduated from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Media, Communication and Culture. The Port Elizabeth University allowed for a combination of proficiencies with Alex majoring in English Literature and Advanced Video Production.

After beginning work in the media industry Alex branched out into business operations, and today manages his own operations consultancy business, with specific expertise in logistics and international shipments.

Teaching experience was gained working as a professional chess coach for schools and talented individuals, having competed at a high level in the sport provincially and for South Africa in high school years. Alex is currently based in South Africa, and has previously lived and worked in both England and Canada.


The core service of the company, at least at the outset, is to provide upmarket online English teaching to second language primary school students, primarily in Asia. This is achieved by utilizing only the most experienced and well qualified European teachers in conjunction with innovative arrangements of the most relevant syllabi available. The internationally renowned Cambridge English Second Language syllabus forms the cornerstone of the teaching process.

The opening courses encompass full English lessons – speaking, writing, reading, comprehension and grammar – as well as specialized versions for the student who wants to concentrate on just one or two aspects of the full lesson.

Our teachers are all extremely well qualified English born speakers and have a number of years’ experience in teaching this student profile. Their vocation is to create a classroom atmosphere in which learning is maximised and the student inspired and entertained.

The standard of our teachers is a key factor in differentiating our company from others. Unlike other less qualified teachers, Jade School teachers do not have to follow the syllabus rigidly, but have the skills to realise when to create extra fun and learning opportunities for the student. Through building long term teacher-student relationships, Jade School teachers are able to tailor lessons for each individual student for their learning benefit.

Jade School recognizes the critical role of parents in this dual venture. The teaching process will be transparent and the work covered will be made explicit along with personal student reports.
